When adjusting the headlight meant "trimming the wick" Eaton Square Garage justifiably claims to be the oldest garage in the U.K. with a continuous working history since 1823. The garage was originally built as a horse and carriage garage for the residents of Eaton Square. It was a private garage and stables until about 1850 when it gradually adopted a commercial outlook, offering veterinary services and carriage repairs - the garage services of the day. It became an automotive garage around 1900 and was one of the very first garages licensed to sell automotive fuel! The name Eaton Square Garage was registered in 1930 and the garage today could claim to be one of the oldest in existence, retaining its independent status and offering a complete automotive maintenance service.
